General Pest Control Treatment FAQs

Do you offer 'green" solutions?
While there is no standard or mandated definition of "green" solutions, we do offer services that are considered environmentally friendly. We'd be happy to discuss our options with you and put your concerns to rest!
What is the benefit of performing pest control during the Winter months?
Exterior pest control during the winter is essential for preventing pests such as rodents, spiders, and overwintering insects from seeking refuge in your home. As temperatures drop, these pests are drawn to the warmth and shelter found in cracks, crevices, and other entry points around your property. Winter treatments establish a protective barrier, significantly reducing the risk of infestations before they begin. Additionally, proactive treatment targets dormant pest eggs, larvae, pupae, and nests—helping to mitigate potential infestations from happening in the spring.
Do the products used inside my home have an odor?
While you may detect a slight smell when liquid products are applied, it will dissipate quickly as it dries. Modern pesticides have different chemical structures than ones used in the past, resulting in less detectable odors.
What do I need to do to prepare for a pest control treatment?
Unless otherwise instructed, there is no need to prepare for a pest management treatment. In many cases, preparation can be counterproductive to the development of the proper treatment protocol.
How long do professional products last, and does rain wash the product away?
By EPA design, products won't last forever. They are meant to break down over time, so there's less environmental impact. You can expect 2-3 months of protection depending upon the product. While rain can have some effect on the material, the Sun's UV rays can be more harmful to pesticides. Adjuvants are often used in coordination with treatments to lengthen their effectiveness.
What about pollinators like honeybees and butterflies?
When performing treatments around a structure, we take precautions to avoid flowering plants where pollinators are foraging. We like pollinators just as much as you, so we choose products and methods with their health in mind!

Termite Treatment FAQs

How do I know if i have termites?
Sings include "swarmers" (often confused with winged/flying ants), hollow-sounding wood, mud tubes on walls or foundations, and discarded wings near windows. Collecting samples and/or taking pictures of "bugs" can be helpful for proper identification.
How is termite treatment performed?
The most common treatments include liquid termiticides and baiting systems.
How long does termite treatment last?
Liquid treatments can last 5-10 years or longer, while bait stations require ongoing monitoring and maintenance.
Will termites come back after treatment?
They can if preventive measures aren't taken. Regular inspections and maintenance treatments help keep them away.

Spotted Lanternfly

Our spotted lanternfly treatment services are designed to protect your property from the destructive effects of this invasive pest. But don't worry, our targeted treatments, expert strategies, and prevention techniques will help manage and control the spotted lanternfly populations around your property.

Spotted Lanternfly Treatment FAQs

How do I know if I have a Spotted Lanternfly problem?
Seeing adult lanternflies, nymphs, egg masses, or sticky honeydew residue on plants are all signs.
What are the best professional treatments for Spotted Lanternflies?
Systemic products are used to protect the health of affected trees and ornamentals. Residual products can be used to control nuisance issues on and around structures to reduce populations of Spotted Lanternflies.
When is the best time to treat for Spotted Lanternflies?
Nymphal stages (Spring and early Summer) are very mobile, so treatments have limited effect. The optimal time to control Spotted Lanternflies is in mid-to-late Summer (late July through mid-September) when the nymphs reach the adult stage. Our efforts are aimed at controlling the voracious adults prior to mating in late September.

Seal all cracks and holes, store food in airtight containers, clean up crumbs, and remove clutter.
What is the best way to get rid of mice?
A proper inspection will help determine the severity of the infestation, affected areas, and creation of the proper protocol. Mechanical traps, rodenticides, and other monitoring methods are used during our treatments.

Bed Bugs

Our team at Hershey Termite & Pest Control understands just how stressful a bed bug infestation can be. Here, you'll find common questions answered about identifying, preventing, and treating bed bugs in your home. Whether you’re dealing with an active problem or want to learn how to avoid future infestations, our expert advice and proven treatments will help you take control.

Bed Bug Treatment FAQs

How do I know if I have bed bugs?
Waking up with itchy, red bites, finding small reddish-brown bugs, or noticing dark fecal spots on mattresses, box springs, sheets, and pillows.
What are the most common professional treatments for bed bugs?
Chemical treatments, biological treatments (Aprehend), heat treatments, cryonite freezing, and fumigation.
Can bed bugs come back after treatment?
Yes, if not all bugs and eggs are eliminated or if reintroduced from travel or infested items.
How can I protect myself from getting bed bugs after traveling?
Assume that you may have been exposed to a bed bug issue anytime you travel. All clothing should be laundered thoroughly (including a high-heat dryer cycle), and luggage should be stored away from living areas of your home. Luggage and un-laundered clothing should never be brought into a bedroom or other sleeping area.
Why should I call a professional exterminator?
There is overwhelming evidence that DIY methods can make bed bug issues worse, spread problems to adjoining rooms, or have little to no effect at all (due to resistance to common retail products).

Ant Treatment FAQs

What are the best ant treatments?
Baits (regular, liquid, and gel), liquid sprays, and dusts are commonly used formulations.
How long does it take to get rid of ants?
Treatments may take a few days to a couple of weeks to fully eliminate a colony. Many species of ants have multiple queens in the colony, so their control is imperative to control the reproduction.
Why should I call a professional exterminator?
Some DIY methods/products will cause ant colonies to "bud". "Budding" is when a colony splits into multiple colonies. When this happens, an ant problem can go from bad to worse overnight.

Spiders

We understand how unsettling a spider problem can be. Hershey Termite and Pest Control is here to help control spiders in and around your home! Seeing multiple spiders in dark or hidden areas, webs in corners, or egg sacs.
What are the best professional spider treatments?
Residual insecticide sprays, dust treatments, perimeter sprays, and web removal techniques.
Why should I call a professional exterminator?
Professional pest control can help identify species of concern (black widow, brown recluse). We can also help keep the populations of prey species (food for spiders) of insects at a minimum around your home.
